The Story

One Ocean is an ambitious, provocative and stunning two-part documentary series that portrays the ocean more completely than ever before. In each breathtaking episode we bring to life a vast, interconnected ecosystem: from the diversity and significance of microscopic plankton, to the sleek power of the Ocean’s top predators.

Mysteries of the Deep, directed by Elise Swerhone,  takes a dive to underwater volcanos, the Mariana trench and the deepest and the most dramatic topography on earth. Bruce Robison, an expert on mid-water animals, introduces us to bioluminescent creatures that live deep below the surface.  And Graham Hawke dives in “Superfalcon”, a new submersible that allows him to glide silently among the creatures of the ocean.

The Changing Sea, directed by Erna Buffie, explores some of the most stunning underwater locations in the world and introduces us to scientists in a race to understand and address the impact of climate change on ocean systems.  Are we willing to form a new partnership with the ocean and its inhabitants? If not, then our future and the future of thousands of other species may hang in the balance.

One Ocean captures a fragile, interconnected world that knows only one constant: change. It’s a world that we cannot exist without.
