Merit Motion Pictures (MMP) is delighted to announce Canadian Screen Award (CSA) nominations for Vietnam: Canada’s Shadow War and Decoding Desire.Vietnam: Canada’s Shadow War, produced for CBC’s Doc Zone, has been nominated in the Best History Documentary Program or Series category. Decoding Desire, which aired on CBC’s The Nature of Things, has been nominated in the Best Writing in a Documentary Program or Series category.Andy Blicq, director, writer and producer of Vietnam: Canada’s Shadow War, received the nomination for his film along with MMP president Merit Jensen Carr, the film’s co-producer. The documentary examines Canada’s role in the Vietnam conflict, and its relationship with the United States throughout the decade-long war, and first aired in March 2015.“We’re so pleased to receive the nomination, the research behind the film was a huge undertaking and our team did amazing work,” said Blicq.This is Blicq’s fourth nomination. He was previously recognized in the Best Sports Program or Series category for The Spirit of the Game and in the Best History Documentary Program category for Bloody Saturday.Decoding Desire, produced by Merit Jensen Carr and Erna Buffie, examines the science behind sex, desire and the experience of pleasure and first aired on CBC in November 2014.“It’s an honour to be recognized for my writing, it was a really nice surprise,” said Ryszard Hunka, the film’s writer and director.This is Hunka’s fourth CSA nomination and first in the writing category. His film Battle of the Bag won in the Best Science, Technology, Nature, Environment, or Adventure Documentary category in 2008.
